I am being asked to comment on a recent study in Circulation by Petek et al. This study found a decreasing rate of sudden cardiac death over time among participating NCAA college athletes (red line). Despite the appearance of the graph, the study goes through June of 2022. It’s a 20-year study but, the yearly population is not
Last data point on the graph seems to be 2021. Maybe the end date of June 2022 is misleading.
Also, there may be increased recent screening for heart problems. That would reduce CV deaths for athletes, but not everyone else.
Agree completely that raw data needed. Adjusted rate used for graph is not well explained
